Isle of Islay - "The Queen of the Hebrides"

Islay is the most southerly of the Inner Hebrides and lies at the entrance to the Firth of Lorne on the west side of Kintyre in Scotland, approximately 35 miles north of Northern Ireland. The island is roughly 40km wide by 25km in length but is almost split in half by two large sea lochs making the overall land mass about 600km2.

It is vitally important that anyone with an interest in halting the uncontested spread of unsustainable aquaculture in Scottish coastal waters engages in the consultation for the new Aquaculture and Fisheries Bill and lobbies the governement to reign in this damaging industry. We have been asking the government that not just the industry and wild fish interests but communities have their say in the imposition of these farms in our waters.
